Here are some ideas for those of you who haven’t yet organised a surprise for February 14th!

Treat the one you love (or lust!) this Valentine’s with Sherman Travel’s selection of specially screened deals. With these offers you will be able to ogle in Oslo, take it off in Tallinn and bed-down in Budapest, staying in luxurious hotels, from just £67 a night. Alternatively, visit romantic Venice and stay a mere stone’s throw from St Mark’s Square, from just £34 per room, per night. Closer to home, take a one night Valentine’s special in London with champagne, dinner and more from £119 a night.

Venice hotels near St Mark’s Square from £34 per room, per night (breakfast included). When it comes to romance there can be no better place to be than Venice. The Rialto Bridge, Piazza San Marco, St. Marks Square, not to mention gondolas and exquisite food and drink, make Venice one of the best places to spend Valentine’s, especially as the tourist throngs aren’t quite so big in February! Venere.com currently lists a number of excellent rates on hotels in Venice, with prices starting from as little as £34 per room, per night. Whether you are looking for 5 star pampering or a city centre crash pad, Venere.com lists plenty of affordable hotel accommodation. Our favourite pick though is the Hotel Citta di Milano, with prices from just £34 a night. Just 100 metres from San Marco Square this hotel offers exceptional value for money. All rooms feature private bathrooms, direct dial telephone, colour TV and air conditioning. A traditional Italian breakfast of coffee and pastries is also included in the price. Romantic and luxurious hotels in Budapest, Oslo and Tallinn from £67 per room. But if the thought of romancing in Paris or Venice with thousands of other couples leaves you feeling cold with cliché, don’t worry, there are other alternatives. Hotels.com currently lists a number of great deals over Valentine’s weekend, staying in less conventional, but no less exciting, European destinations. Bed down in Budapest, staying in a fairytale 18th century baroque hotel from £67.56 per room, per night. The four star Art’otel is located on the Danube Embankment – perfect for riverside strolls – and is a showcase for the work of American artist Donald Sultan. But if that doesn’t appeal, splash out on the luxury and stay in the five star Grand Hotel, Oslo, from £110 per room, per night. Arguably one of the best hotels in Norway, and conveniently located on Karl Johans Gate, the city’s main thoroughfare, guests will not have to look far to find cosy restaurants and quaint bars.

But if you really want to surprise your lover with your up-to-the-minute knowledge of happening city break destinations and fabulous hotels, we’d recommend a trip to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Housed in an historical building in the centre of the old town, the Schlossle Hotel is in an ideal location for exploring this beautiful medieval city. Guests can dine by candle light in front of a log fire in a 13th century vaulted cellar, and if Estonia sounds like it might be a cold place to be in February, don’t worry – guests can keep warm and indulge in a traditional Estonian sauna!
