Show to evoke festive spirit
A concert next month aims to “ignite the Christmas spirit” among members of the Konkani community in Bahrain.
The show, on November 30, is being held under the patronage of the Young Goans Club (YGC). It will feature Indian artistes Ophelia, Babli, William de Curtorim, Jose Rod and Benny.
Ophelia, a veteran of the Konkani stage with over 50 years’ professional experience, is popularly known as the “Tragedy Queen” for her heart-rending performances. She has also performed for several film productions and was married to the late Bab Peter, who passed away in Bahrain last year. In July, Ophelia performed in Kuwait in a drama by Rosary Ferns. Babli is the only daughter of Ophelia and the late Bab Peter. Also well known for her singing, Babli has been performing since the age of four. Today, she is considered as one of the brightest stars on the Konkani entertainment scene. William de Curtorim is known as the “King of Political Songs” in Goa. Jose has performed in several stage plays and has released CDs in India. Benny is a Bahrain-based singer and composer. His performances have been compared to shows by the late ‘Melody King’ Alfred Rose.
The show, named Konkani Mogi Tumchea Mucar Dovortat, will be held at the Baan Saeng Thai Restaurant, Adliya, featuring 25 new songs (solos, duets and quartets). It will begin at 7.30pm. Tickets are BD5, BD4 and BD3.
