Commercial outlets wishing to remain open till late, as well as on Sundays and public holidays, will be able to do so between November 1st, 2006 and January 7th, 2007 to take advantage of the increased business during the Christmas period.

Parliamentary Secretary Edwin Vassallo said that the extended opening hours are possible under the latest amendments to the Trade Licensing Regulations, but went on to stress that these were voluntary and it was up to the individual shops to decide whether to take advantage of the opportunity or not.

An advantage to both the consumers and the entrepreneurs, the amendments have led to an extension of the Christmas shopping period and allow all shops to open every day till 2200hrs.
