Covent Garden lights up for Christmas > UK
There’s just one week left until the Christmas build-up officially comes to the West End. The lights on Regent Street and Oxford Street have already been turned on, and Covent Garden Market’s glittering selection of sparkling twinklers will be illuminated next Thursday, 16 November, at an all-singing, all-dancing celebration.
Among the bulging stocking of entertainment on offer are performances from the casts of Chicago and The Lion King. The event also features performances from The Pineapple Performing Arts School and the big turn on, which sees a surprise celebrity guest flicking the switch to light up the largest outdoor Christmas tree in London.
From then onwards, Covent Garden Market will be decked in all things festive and will host Santa’s Grotto, a mulled wine cabin and a carousel, along with all the usual shops and stalls. Between 16 and 19 November there will also be a Festive Food and Fun Festival with up to 60 British food exhibitors, demonstrations, staged activities and live music on Friday and Saturday evening.
The main Covent Garden Market switch on event runs between 17:00 and 19:00 and is free to the public. If two hours of free festive entertainment is not enough, there is a pre-event line-up that starts at 14:00 which includes local schools singing Christmas carols.
