Icelandic Christmas village opens

The fourth annual Christmas village, an outdoor market selling things related to Christmas, opens on Thorsplan square in Hafnafjördur, southwest Iceland, today.

The village is made up of 20 stalls in the form of Christmas cottages. Due to the recent snowfall, the square had to be cleared before putting up the stalls, Fréttabladid reports.

Steinunn Thorsteinsdóttir, information officer for the town of Hafnafjördur, told Fréttabladid that the Christmas village is extremely popular among locals and is also attracting people from out of town in ever increasing numbers.
