Wine event focuses on Italy’s Piedmont

The wines of the Piedmont region of Italy are featured at this month’s Second Tuesday Wine Tasting at Enrico’s Ristorante, 5863 Ellsworth Ave., Shadyside.

From 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, three wines will be paired with regional antipasti. The cost is $20 per person. Future tastings focus on Veneto, January 9, Sicily, February 13 and Molise, March 13.

On December 13, international wines will be paired with a five-course meal, featuring house-smoked Trout Napoleon, Pork and Goat Cheese Salad, Gorgonzola Stuffed Pear and Beef Tenderloin Involtini.

Vintages include 2005 Lucia Albarino, Rias Baixas, Spain; 2004 Jean Baptiste Adam Riesling Reserve, Alsace, France; 2001 Palazzo della Tore Allegrini, Veneto, Italy; and 1999 Samos Anthemis Muscat, Greece. The meal, which begins at 7 p.m., costs $55, excluding tax and tip.

A New Year’s Eve wine dinner, which begins at 7 p.m. December 31, pairs six courses with seven wines for $125, excluding tax and tip. Items include roasted beet salad, veal and mascarpone ravioli, seared jumbo scallops, roasted venison loin, and white and dark chocolate mousse. Vintages from California, New Zealand, Italy and France will be poured.

Reservations are required for the events. Enrico’s is open at 5 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and is closed Sundays.
