Christmas celebrated enthusiastically in Pakistan
As in other parts of the country, Christmas, the holy festival of Christians marking the birth of Jesus Christ, was celebrated with the utmost zeal and fervour in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The day dawned with services in churches followed by special prayers for the country’s solidarity and integrity. Christmas greetings and gifts were exchanged among the Christian community and Christmas trees were displayed at restaurants, hotels and Christian buildings. Many people were seen at bakeries and sweetshops to buy Christmas cakes.
Christmas celebrations kicked off in the twin cities on Sunday at all five-star hotels and major restaurants amid tight security. The Islamabad Mariott Hotel organised the biggest Christmas celebration in the hotel lobby attended by foreigners and the city’s elite. Additional police were deployed outside hotels, markets, shopping centres and restaurants to avoid any untoward incident during the Christians’ festivities.
