Greek Christmas in Canada

In a different setting than they have been accustomed to – due to the unusually high temperatures for this time of year – ethnic Greeks in Canada celebrated Christmas.

Snow only fell in Montreal yesterday – a fact that promised a White New Year! In some Montreal churches, nocturnal Christmas services were held, in accordance with the Greek Orthodox tradition.

In the afternoon, some Greeks set the festive table with pork as the main focus, while others served turkey and hot soup. According to news reports, sweet shops and bakeries were crowded with people buying the traditional Greek pastries of the season.
