Bulgaria Celebrates Epiphany

Bulgaria celebrates Epiphany today. According to the tradition in the country the Orthodox Church will bless the army and their flags on the day. Bulgarians are celebrating this feast by making another ritual, throwing a crucifix in a river or a lake.

The ritual for the blessing of the army flags in Sofia will be held at 11.00 am in front of the monument of the Unknown soldier. The ceremony will be attended by the President of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov, the Minister of Defense Veselin Bliznakov, the Chief of General Staff of the Bulgarian Army Gen. Zlatan Stoykov, Deputy Defense Ministers .

Ringing bells marked the beginning of the ceremony for the celebration of the Epiphany in Bulgaria during a ceremony in front of the monument of the Unknown Soldier in Bulgaria.

The ceremony was attended by the Bulgarian President and Supreme Commander of the Bulgarian Armed Forces Georgi Parvanov, Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, the Minister of Defense Veselin Bliznakov, the Chief of General Staff of the Bulgarian Army Gen. Zlatan Stoykov, the Speaker of Parliament Georgi Pirinski, MPs and many citizens.
