Christmas Tree Festival > November 2007 – January 2008

Christmas-time is treated in a traditional and stylish manner in Switzerland, and this is typified by the International Christmas Tree Festival which takes place each year in Geneva. Between November and January, an array of trees and sculptures created from the designs of famous international artists are displayed throughout the city.

Across Switzerland’s second largest city, dozens of artistically decorated Christmas trees are displayed, some made to specific themes and some adorned with ribbons and artistic lighting effects. The trees are selected by a jury, according to events guide What’s On When, with the top 23 trees being exhibited around Geneva. Known as the art of the trees to locals, the installations can be found around Place St-Gervais, Place de Chevelu, Place de l’Ile and areas near to the river.

If the November weather gets too chilly, head to the Hotel d’Angleterre to warm up and enjoy a Christmassy view of the snow-capped Swiss Alps across Lake Geneva.
