Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council is planning to install a temporary ice rink, eight market stalls and two fairground attractions at the Booterstown end of Blackrock Park.

The public will be consulted about the planned development and the proposal can be viewed at the council’s planning office. Proposals include the erection of a temporary seasonal ice rink and ancillary facilities at Williamstown in Booterstown.

The ice rink is being promoted by the council which is proposing to operate it from November 17 through to January 31, 2008 for 10 hours a day between 10am and 11pm on the green beside Booterstown DART Station. The temporary amenity will be enclosed in a giant marquee to ensure it remains open at all times. Eight market type stalls, two funfair attractions, a temporary box office, administration office, first aid, toilets and other service facilities adjacent to the marquee will also be included.

It is anticipated that 70 per cent of visitors to the event will use public transport and this will be encouraged through an integrated publicity campaign between public transport operators and the council. A temporary car park to accommodate 150 cars will also be established to limit traffic congestion and facilitate visitors.
